I can mention the name Belle’s Place all day and no one would have the slightest clue to what I’m talking about. That right there is the beauty of our Lowcountry juke joints. Hidden treasures. Belle’s Place was a small juke Joint at the now gone Lady’s Island Oyster Factory back in the 1940’s. Isabelle, being not just a woman, but a black woman in that era doing so well attracted some of the wrong kind of attention. Once a native shop owner in the same community hired a man from Naussa, Bahamas to kill Belle, so he could take control of her juke joint. But that another story for another time. Couldn’t have create a finer praline to treasure my great, great grandma Belle and her juke joint.

In the world of nuts, none is more abiding than the almond, even mentioned in Biblical times, with the subtle sweetness from apricots and just the right hint of spice with ginger and cardamom. And can’t forget about a splash of local moonshine to toast to the good times once spent at Belle’s Place. CHEERS!
